Chicago Bears wide receiver Riley Ridley has a lot to lose versus Tennessee
The ascension of wide receiver Rodney Adams has been a blast to watch. However, it has come at the expense of some other players fighting for a roster spot. Two of those guys competing for a place on the team are Javon Wims and Riley Ridley, both former Georgia boys.
I constantly refer to Ridley as the team’s greatest mystery. He hasn’t had a lot of playing time since the Bears drafted him in the fourth round a few years ago. Many thought he was actually a steal in that draft class, known to be one of the top route runners that year.
Instead, Ridley has apparently had a hard time adjusting to the pro game and has never really received favor from the coaching staff. With Allen Robinson, Darnell Mooney, Marquise Goodwin, Damiere Byrd and (hopefully) Adams making this roster, there’s not much room left.
It will be between Ridley, Wims and rookie Dazz Newsome for the sixth spot. Of course, Newsome could end up on the practice squad as well. But, the Bears could still end up keeping him on the 53-man roster to help on special teams, along with Khalil Herbert.
For Ridley, this Saturday could be the nail in the coffin.
