The Chicago Bears signed wide receiver Breshad Perriman to a one-year deal Wednesday afternoon. Soon-to-be 28-year-old veteran receiver signed a one-year deal with the Detriot Lions in March. Perriman was not a finalist for the 53 man roster released Tuesday afternoon.
Only 24 hours later the Bears signed the receiver, which adds depth to the core after the roster moves made during the preseason. Perriman adds lots of sizes which is something lacking in the Bears receiving core. Listed at 6 foot 2 Perriman ran a 4.25 40 yard dash in the 2015 NFL combine. Over the course of his career has been able to maintain a consistent 40 also clocking in at 4.35.
Having played in the league for over five seasons, The former Central Florida receiver is coming off one of his best season since being in the league. While being a member of the Jets last season, he recorded 505 yards on 30 receptions and three touchdowns, while starting over 12 games.
Drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2015, Perriman has bounced around the league trying to find a home. With the Bears not having a receiver listed over 6 foot 2, Perriman immediately brings a good combination of size and speed.
Although Perriman has had issues with catching the ball and staying healthy throughout the course of a season, his overall career numbers with yards per reception is one that stands out. Averaging 16.5 yards per reception in his career.
Chicago also adds return specialist Nsimba Webster from the 49ers. With that, they released Rodney Adams who had an incredible story and performance in the preseason.
