Chicago Bears Free Agent Target: Austin Reiter, C

Remember what I was saying about the doubts with Sam Mustipher? Well, there is an even easier fix if the Chicago Bears feel comfortable with Germain Ifedi returning to full strength. The answer is Austin Reiter. This again is a player I am very shocked is still available. Maybe he and Rick Wagner are asking for too much money? All I know is that Reiter would be a clear upgrade over Mustipher and gives the Bears better depth at center too.

If you read my work or follow me on social media, I am not a big proponent of Pro Football Focus (PFF) — especially their player grades. However, the one area I do think they have done a somewhat solid job in is grading the offensive linemen. This is a little easier than other positions to do without knowing the plays and playbook.

Austin Reiter had a PFF grade of 70.9 (above average) last season. In 867 snaps he did not allow a sack or commit a penalty. 2019 was not as good, but 2018 was even better. Reiter deserves to be on an NFL roster and Ryan Pace could be the guy to give him that opportunity. This would instantly guarantee the interior of the line is one of the best in the NFL and you might be able to hide some of the issues at offensive tackle.

If I am Ryan Pace, this is the one free agent out of these three I would consider a must.
