Chicago Bears: 5 Players on the current roster still at risk of being cut
Chicago Bears player still fighting for a roster spot: Jesper Horsted, TE
Last year the Chicago Bears kept five tight ends and this year they did the same. Many felt like Jesper Horsted’s performance in the final preseason game is why he was kept. Now, I am sure his three touchdown-performance helped his cause, but I am not certain it would have mattered.
One, Horsted has looked decent throughout training camp and has always shown flashes. He deserved to make the team with or without that final outcome versus the Titans. Two, we all know that Matt Nagy loves his tight ends. The Chicago Bears started with five tight ends on the roster to start the 2020 season, but Erik Saubert did not last too long. He bounced back and forth from the active roster and the practice squad. We could see something similar here with Horsted
However, if he keeps showing up in practice the same way he has been in training camp and the preseason, then maybe he will be able to convince Matt Nagy that he should see more time on game days. Maybe J.P. Holtz is the one who is cut instead. Holtz does not have the upside as Horsted, but he brings value with his ability to block as a fullback or off the line of scrimmage.
