Chicago Bears player still fighting for a roster spot: Josh Woods, ILB

Honestly, I am shocked that Josh Woods made it through the first round of cuts. He’s been an odd man out for me in all of my projected 53-man rosters up to this point and I do wonder if he’s still on the active roster come the end of the season.

We already talked about why the team kept seven inside linebackers. Now that it is down to six, I still wonder if it will stay that way. Last year, the Chicago Bears only kept four inside linebackers. However, in 2019, Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy elected to keep six at the position. Personally, I think they end up with no more than five throughout most of the year unless they can find a way to trade Nick Foles. Having to hold an extra quarterback on the roster will deplete another position.

When it comes to Josh Woods and Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Iyiegbuniwe brings a little more upside to the special teams units. If the team had to choose between these two for the final spot, I would assume Josh Woods ends up being the guy to be shown the door.
