Chicago Bears Offensive MVP: David Montgomery

David Montgomery was able to run for over 100-yards against the Rams highly-touted defense

Despite all the concerns surrounding the Bears’ offensive line entering the season, they were able to run the ball pretty well with David Montgomery. After a great finish to the 2020 season, it was good to see Montgomery pick up where he left off.

The Bears showed some solid run-blocking against the rams, but Montgomery also did a lot of the work on his own, consistently slipping tackles and getting yards after contact.  Montgomery finished the game with 108 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and one catch for 10 yards.

This award was fairly easy to give out since there weren’t too many offensive standouts to choose from, but Montgomery is continuing to show that he is one of the most underrated running backs in the NFL. It was very encouraging to see Montgomery run the ball so well against a stellar defense and could make the Bears more comfortable putting Fields in at starter, knowing they have a quality back that can make his job a lot easier.

The Bears weren’t able to capitalize on Montgomery’s success on the ground with any big play-action passes, but it doesn’t change Montgomery’s individual performance.
