Chicago Bears Week 1: The Good

The silver lining in this defeat is without a doubt third-year running back David Montgomery. On the night, Montgomery rushed for a game-high 108 yards and one touchdown on just 16 carries. This individual rushing total was the second-most in Week 1. The Iowa State product seems to be picking up just where he left off last season when he rushed for over 1,000 yards.

In addition to Montgomery’s performance, rookie quarterback Justin Fields had an opportunity to give Bears fans a glimpse of what the future will be. The 11th-overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft was on the field for only five plays but did show his red-zone magic in the third quarter with a three-yard touchdown run to cut the Rams’ lead to six points. Hopefully, Fields will get more snaps in an effort to add another dimension to Chicago’s offense.

Although the Bears did end up on the losing end of this game, fans can still find some solitude in the fact that they are still tied for first place in the NFC North after the first week of the season. This is due to the fact that the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and the Minnesota Vikings all lost their games in Week 1 as well.
