Chicago Bears biggest surprise No. 2: Secondary worse than many thought

When the Bears were unable to find a trade partner for former cornerback Kyle Fuller, they released the All-Pro corner in late March. We have now come to realize that was not the best option for the team. A number of either questionable talents or veterans quickly filled the cornerback position heading into training camps.

The Bears opened Sunday’s game with Kindle Vildor, Marqui Christian, Jaylon Johnson, Tashaun Gipson and Eddie Jackson.  Errors and blown coverages were the mishaps for the three-touchdown loss. Los Angeles was able to capitalize on two deep shots down the field which resulted in touchdowns of more than 56 and 67 yards.

Following the embarrassment that was posed by the secondary, along with the inability to tackle or touch players when they are yet to be ruled down, the Bears held some tryouts. D.J. Hayden, Lafayyette Pitts and Kevon Seymour were three players the Bears tried out, in hopes to find depth or replacements at the cornerback position.

Chicago Bears biggest surprise No. 3: Left tackle takes a hit on the depth chart

The Chicago Bears ended Sunday’s loss against the Rams with third-string Elijah Wilkinson as the starting left tackle. We all knew at some point left tackle, Jason Peters was going to go down with an injury, we just did not know when.

The 39-year-old veteran was brought into camp in early September following the news of rookie Teven Jenkins’ back injury. Peters missed half of the 2020 season with Philadelphia after starting in eight games. We came into the 2021 season unsure if he’d continue playing. Peters would end up leaving in the game’s first quarter with a quad injury that he never returned from.

His injury called for fifth-round draft pick Larry Borom to make his unexpected NFL debut. This did not last too long, five offensive snaps later Borom’s ankle rolled up as players fell on his legs requiring him to exit. Both players currently enter Sunday’s game status against Cincinnati as questionable
