The Chicago Bears’ secondary is currently a much bigger issue than their front. This is encouraging considering the team is set to face the Cleveland Browns this week. Odell Beckham will play, but this is his first game off an ACL, and beyond that Jarvis Landry is banged up, leaving the Browns with little stars at WR.

The Browns are not a team that relies on their wide receivers, though. They are a run-first team, and with two running backs and three tight ends, they are going to shuffle their big men and grind teams down. So, while the Bears’ secondary is weaker, it will be the front that gets tested on Sunday.

The Bears have held up well, but it is fair that they have not played an offensive line like Cleveland. The Browns have big bodies and talent across all five spots.

While the Chicago Bears have talent on their defensive line, they have been lacking depth in recent weeks. Fortunately, once that depth will get tested against the Browns, the group could very well get two big names back.

Mario Edwards was suspended for the first two weeks. There is no doubt that he will suit up this week after practicing all week. This is pretty valuable considering Edwards adds depth across the line. He can line up anywhere from over the center to the outside edge, adding depth and keeping everyone fresh.

Edwards helps, but the team could get a huge boost in Eddie Goldman. Bears fans probably forget how impactful a healthy Goldman was because it has been so long. Still, after opting out in 2020 and missing the first two weeks of 2021 with injury, Goldman has been limited in practice and is trending towards playing on Sunday.

Khyiris Tonga has held down the nose tackle job well, but this is a rookie, and Sunday would be a big test. Adding Goldman would keep Tonga in a limited role, and let him explode off the line when they need him.

Having a front that includes Akiem Hicks, Bilal Nichols, Angelo Blackson, and now adding in Edwards and Goldman is exactly what you are looking for if you want to stop the run.
