When it comes to the quarterback position this year, I have been one to say that Justin Fields should have been given the starting job from the start. I am also on record for saying I had no problem with the team signing Andy Dalton in the offseason, not knowing who the Chicago Bears may land in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace needed someone better than Nick Foles and Dalton was one of the better options available.

The problem with Dalton is we all know who he is and Super Bowl aspirations were very bleak if they even existed at all. This is why everyone and their brother knew the Chicago Bears would be in on a quarterback in the draft.

The Chicago Bears and Matt Nagy were lucky draft Justin Fields

The problem with the Bears’ situation was, knowing they were all-in on a quarterback and having the 20th-overall pick does not guarantee a quarterback becomes available who is worthy of drafting in the first round. Justin Fields falling is exactly what this franchise needed though.

We all saw how the offseason played out this year. Andy Dalton looked like the experienced quarterback we knew he was but lacked the big, explosive plays that we have all been begging to see since Walter Payton was the face of the franchise.

This league is different. The NFL is now a passing league and if you don’t have a stud quarterback your offense is going to struggle. This is what we have seen over the years here in Chicago and we all hope Justin Fields finally brings change.
