The Chicago Bears should sell off some assets as an MLB team would

At this point, the Chicago Bears should start looking at some of their players and think about selling them off to the highest bidder. Doing this after a 1-2 start is crazy, I know. This is admitting defeat very early in the season as the NFC North is still capable of being won as the Lions are winless, the Vikings are currently beating the Seahawks and could be 1-2, and the Packers play the 49ers tonight to try and take over the North at 2-1.

This won’t happen, but with Robert Quinn playing so well and Akiem Hicks playing solid ball too, I am on board with trying to trade either or both of them now. The Chicago Bears have some young, promising talent, but moving on from these two could bring back some draft capital as the team hits the reset button.

Khalil Mack could be a potential option also, but the third guy I’d be looking to move in a trade is Allen Robinson. Would you take a second-round pick for Allen Robinson right now? I know that I would. Then whoever is the general manager next year can use that pick to try and add more offensive line talent. With two second-rounders, the Chicago Bears can trade up into the first or grab the two best players available in the second.

Bringing in additional assets to try and build more through the draft is important. This also solves part of the “this Chicago Bears team is old” narrative. Sending off players of this caliber will definitely cause the defense to take a step back, but with players like Jaylon Johnson and Roquan Smith, young talent is still there to build around. Use the draft capital to bring in some offensive weapons too — preferably at wide receiver.

Now, this is clearly an emotional response to a game that took place less than eight hours ago, but what else should they do at this point? The offense needs to be improved and the current group here is not going to do it. Build around Justin Fields the same way the Cardinal have around Kyler Murray the last two seasons and this team could start making Super Bowl runs as soon as 2023.
