Chicago Bears Week 3 Winner No. 3: Deon Bush

After Tashaun Gipson was ruled out with an injury for Week 3, that meant Deon Bush was going to need to step up. While he did not make any crazy plays, he had himself a solid game and contributed a lot as the starting strong safety.

Bush has been the backup/throw-in starter for the last three years now and many fans are wondering if he can be the future partner to Eddie Jackson in the defensive backfield. The way he played against the Browns shows that he can hold his own there and might present a tough choice on whether the team should move on from Gipson after this year.

Bush finished with six total tackles and a pass defended against the Browns and did a nice job in coverage throughout the game. He did not allow any deep plays, although there were not many taken by Baker Mayfield.

The Browns have a few deep threats including Odell Beckham Jr., and the entire Bears secondary did a solid job of keeping the ball in front of them. They did not play great, but guys like Bush and Jaylon Johnson looked good against a high-powered offense.

Deon Bush played a good game and gets tagged a winner because he filled in nicely as the starter and has probably earned himself some more starting reps going forward. The Bears will have to make a decision about safety going forward as Bush and Gipson are both on expiring deals, so if he continues to play like this he could present his case for being brought back as a possible starter.

The Chicago Bears once again had their defense out on the field for way too long and it is tiring to watch. The defense consistently is relied upon to bail out a failing offense and the players must be fed up. A few players had good games in what was one of the worst efforts in a long time. Things need to change or this could be a long year for everyone.
