The Chicago Bears suffered an embarrassing loss against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, but these five players managed to stand out.

It’s obvious that any Bears fan would love to see this list kick off with names like David Montgomery, Allen Robinson, Darnell Mooney, or Justin Fields. But in Fields and the Bears as a whole let fans down.

The Browns’ nine sacks on the day was a single-game franchise record and Myles Garett helped his run at the NFL’s defensive player of the year with his 4.5 sacks, which is also a single-game franchise record. The offensive line should be blamed for a majority of the sacks, but Fields looked like a lost puppy holding onto the ball at times where he failed to scan the field.

While the offense struggled, the defense and special teams did not look as awful. Players in those phases of football did however stand out to me.

Khalil Herbert did not see any offensive plays. David Montgomery and Justin Fields were the only Bears with rushing attempts against the Cleveland Browns. However, Herbert did have an excellent day as a returner.

In his four returns, Herbert mustered up 95 total yards with an average of 23.8 yards per return. His long of 31 yards proves that he stayed true to his average rather than having one return skew his numbers.

In his rookie season, Herbert is proving his value and should continue to see his role grow. There was some thought that he could see some work on the offense with Tarik Cohen out, but it seems the team trusts Montgomery enough in all three roles a running back must cover; running the ball, receiving, and blocking.

Herbert’s role should continue to grow as a returner as he attempts to fill the hole left by Cordarrelle Patterson.
