Chicago Bears Week 4 Rookie MVP: Justin Fields

Considering how few rookies the Bears have in the active lineup, Fields will always be on the shortlist of candidates for this award. But make no mistake about it; Fields isn’t just getting this honor because he is one of the three Bears rookies who saw action on Sunday, this is because Fields played one of the best games of any rookie quarterback so far this year.

Justin Fields’ impact goes well beyond the stat sheet

11 completions on 17 attempts for 209 yards and an interception doesn’t look great on paper, but those numbers don’t encapsulate the real story. Even though David Montgomery was the one cashing in the red zone touchdowns, Fields was the guy getting them there. Fields completed several big passes, most of which were to Darnell Mooney to extend drives and get the offense in position to score.

Justin Fields adds a new dimension to the Bears offense

Justin Fields averaged 12.3 yards per attempt against the Lions. The ability to complete deep passes is one that shouldn’t be overlooked by the rest of the league. Additionally, Fields also poses a threat as a runner and was able to extend some plays when he was pressured.

After a brutal first start, Fields was able to show fans what he could do with better protection and a better game-plan. The 22-year-old quarterback once again showed his promise, and it’s up to the Bears to make sure they get the most out of it.
