On Wednesday, Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy officially named Justin Fields the starting quarterback moving forward this season.

"“I told you the last couple of weeks we’ve had some good conversations internally,” Nagy said. “It’s helped us the last couple of weeks, continuing that process this week it’s led to making the decision to move with Justin as the starter. We’ve been patient with this. We’ve grown with him. We’re proud of Justin. …”"

Nagy mentioned the plan that was initially in place was sped up due to Andy Dalton’s knee injury that he sustained in the Week 2 victory over the Bengals. With Dalton missing time, Fields received opportunities to showcase his abilities and that was enough to win the organization over.

Chicago Bears fans, let’s meet the Las Vegas Raiders, shall we?

Now the focus for the Bears’ coaching staff will be “to continue to teach and help” Fields develop into the NFL quarterback they believe he can be.

In this loaded episode of The Chicago Audible podcast, Will DeWitt and I discuss Nagy’s decision to make Fields the starter. We share our initial reaction to the news and discuss how the move potentially impacts the expectations for this Bears 2021 season.

Also for this Week 5 edition of “Meet The Opponent,” The Chicago Audible talks with Scott Gulbransen of the Silver & Black radio show. Gulbransen provides his insight on how Derek Carr has been playing this season, why the Raiders’ offense has struggled to put up points in the first quarter, what he has seen from Las Vegas’ defense so far through four games, and much more.
