For the first time this year, the Chicago Bears are above .500, thanks to an upset win over the Raiders on Sunday, by a score of 20-9. The Bears won in a relatively dominant fashion, thanks to a strong showing from Khalil Mack and the defense.

The Bears running attack looked solid without David Montgomery

The Bears were able to keep their run-heavy approach without David Montgomery by splitting hand-offs between Rookie Khalil Herbert and free-agent acquisition Damien Williams. The two combined for 34 carries, 139 yards, and one touchdown. There was nothing flashy in the rushing attack, but it was productive, and that’s what the Bears needed to take pressure off of Justin Fields.

The Bears Defense thrived

Derek Carr was held in check through the entire game, finishing the game with 22 completions on 35 attempts for 206 yards and an interception. The Raiders’ lone touchdown came on a run from Josh Jacobs, who finished the game with 67 yards from scrimmage. All in all, the Bears were able to shut down an offense that had looked potent early in the season. This unit is starting to look a lot more like one that could lead the team to victories than the one we saw against the Rams back in week one. If the Bears want to win their upcoming games against some of the best teams in the league, like the Packers and Buccaneers, they will have to rely on their defense to get stops.
