Offensive MVP: Justin Fields

This was another one of those games that made selecting an offensive MVP a challenging task. There wasn’t a single individual performance that really stuck out. I ended up going with Fields not just because of his overall play but also because of the leadership and toughness he showed in what was only his third career start.

Fields recorded his first career passing touchdown

After David Montgomery ran in multiple touchdowns in the red zone last week, the Bears made more of an effort to throw the ball deep in opponent territory. Fields found tight end Jesper Horstead in the end zone for a two-yard passing touchdown early in the second quarter. Box score stats aren’t always that important, but it was nice to see Fields finally get his first passing touchdown.

Justin Fields showed his toughness

No one should’ve been questioning Fields’ toughness to begin with, but just in case there was any doubt, the rookie showed once again his desire to be great. After leaving the game in what looked to possibly be a serious leg injury, Fields came back out to finish off the drive after Andy Dalton took a couple of snaps in relief. It wasn’t just playing through potential injuries that was impressive; he also took his fair share of shots in the pocket. Fields only took two sacks, but he was pressured and hit several other times. Throughout it all, the rookie stayed poised and unfazed. Fields continues to make a positive impact on the offense, and it is only a matter of time until the box score starts to reflect that.
