Defensive MVP: Khalil Mack

In Mack’s first game against the Raiders in London back in 2019, he was nearly a non-factor. Jon Gruden and the Raiders were so weary of Mack’s whereabouts at all times; he was made ineffective. But Mack reminded his former team something they to knew far too well in his four years with the franchise; It’s only a matter of time until Khalil Mack hurts you. It’s now been three years since Mack was traded from the Raiders, and on Sunday, he finally got the revenge game he wanted.

It was a vintage performance for Mack who acted as a disruptive force throughout the entirety of the game. Mack finished with eight total tackles and a sack, as well as a second sack on the Raiders’ two-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter, that didn’t officially count as a sack, since stats aren’t recorded on two points conversion attempts. All in all, it was one of Mack’s best games as a Bear. Without Akiem Hicks to eat up space up the middle, the Bears needed someone on the front seven to step up and the former defensive player of the year was up for the challenge.

The Bears defense is starting to come together

After week one, I started to think that the Bears’ defense may not be very good this year. There are still a lot of things that Chicago needs to figure out on that side of the ball, but Sean Desai deserves some serious props for what he’s done with the defense the last four weeks.
