Chicago Bears Disappointing Player No. 3: The defense as a whole
Piggybacking off the previous disappointing Chicago Bear, the defense as a whole played… not great.
As a unit, they allowed 467 total yards (322 passing, 145 rushing), which is the most the 49ers have had this season, including their game against a now 0-8 Detroit Lions team. That stat really shows you how off they were today.
Now, another aspect of the game I want to bring up is the Bears’ third-down-defense. On paper, the defense stopped 6/10 third down conversions by the 49ers. That being said, not once did they punt, and on two third downs, there were two significant plays.
Play No. 1
Deebo Samuel catches an 83-yard catch that was a hustle play by DeAndre Houston-Carson away from being a touchdown on third and 20. What?!
Play No. 2 (same drive)
On the same drive as that third and 20, the Bears lock up their goal-line defense to bring up another third down play, where Jimmy Garroppolo rushes it in for a touchdown.
So, on two third downs on the same drive, the Bears buckle causing a touchdown that could’ve been the score that changed the game.
After that third and 20 conversion, the Chicago Bears were seemingly not the same team as they were before.
Just another Sunday watching the Chicago Bears, I guess.
With that, how do I think the full game went? Very good question.
