3. Pushing the ball deep

Justin Fields is making so many big time throws in part because he is pushing the ball deep as much as any quarterback in the NFL. I am not exaggerating. His 10.7 average depth of target leads the NFL. Lamar Jackson is at 10.5, and Russell Wilson is 10.1. Fields is with big-time playmakers who are constantly changing games by their ability to push the ball down the field. Trubisky was at 8.2 last season, and at 9.3 during his great 2018 run.

Beyond that, 18% of his passes travel 20 yards or more. That once again leads the NFL, with Russell Wilson trailing him down at 16%. Lamar Jackson was at 15%, and Jalen Hurts at 15% as well. To be fair to Trubisky his 2018 season was 16.8%, but he was at 11% last season.

Fields is being aggressive, he is pushing the ball down the field, and it is paying off. This is what you want to see from a rookie.
