With their sixth-round pick, the Chicago Bears select: Chase Lucas, CB – Arizona State

Chase Lucas was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He is very experienced as a multi-year starter for Arizona State. The one big flaw is his age. He will be 25 before the 2022 NFL Draft. That said, for a sixth-round pick, I’d prefer to bring in an experienced corner to help right away rather than a younger guy who might lack the experience needed to not land on the practice squad.

The Chicago Bears have a very good corner in Jaylon Johnson and Kindle Vildor has shown flashes, but has been exposed often. Adding in a player like Chase Lucas to the mix should only help as teams have to play three corners often in today’s NFL.

Lucas has the tools to push Vildor for the outside spot or could push to start at the nickel spot. Ideally, I like him more on the outside with his 6’0″ frame. He has great catching ability when he is able to get his hands on the football, but he only has six interceptions over his five-year college career. Lucas also has the ability to help on special teams as he is a very solid tackler.

Again, most positions are on the table here, but I liked Lucas’ skill set the most and fit for the defense in 2022.

Other options: Quay Walker (LB), Xavier Henderson (S), Bubba Bolden (S), D’Jordan Strong (CB),
