Chicago Bears Week 11 Winner No. 2: Roquan Smith

Roquan Smith is really good at football. At this point, he is easily the Chicago Bears’ best defensive player, and might just be the best player on this football team. Week in and week out he makes plays all over the field and racks up tackles like it’s nothing. He is once again the defensive MVP of this team and needs to get more credit from the national media.

He finished the game against the Ravens with seventeen total tackles as he seemed to be everywhere during this game. His leadership as the quarterback of this defense to go along with his style of play demonstrate why he is so good and so important to the defense.

He bails out the team with exceptional open-field tackling and hustles even when he is completely out of a play. There were multiple times when he chased down a running back or receiver yesterday in order to secure a tackle.

You cannot ask for much else from your middle linebacker and the leader of the defense. His energy should be contagious and I would like to see the other defensive players play with this type of effort on every play. The Bears’ defense looked okay yesterday before another late-game meltdown, but a lot of that credit goes to Roquan Smith for containing some potential big plays and just playing with sheer effort and hustle.

The Bears will have to make extending Roquan Smith a priority for this offseason because he has improved every year he has played. He is still one of the younger players on this team and will be a cornerstone of the franchise for years to come. Performances like this one against the Ravens show why he is a superstar in this league and deserves more attention and credit.
