2. Chicago Bears start new slot corner

To start the season the Chicago Bears had a pretty open competition for the slot cornerback spot. Duke Shelley was the leader in the clubhouse, but Marqui Christan and Xavier Crawford were being given fair looks for the job.

In weeks one and two, it was Christian and Crawford getting the most work in the slot. Then from week three through last week, the mood changed and Shelley took back over. There have been a few breakdowns, but nothing major on the end of Shelley.

Unfortunately for the Chicago Bears, Shelley was placed on the IR with a hamstring injury. Desai had a choice as to what to do in the slot, and he went with Crawford.

Crawford held his own for the most part, allowing one big catch to Josh Reynolds, and having a clean sheet otherwise. Nothing was set in stone, so it very well could be Christian next week as Desai gives both a fair shot. However, the first man up off of the bench was Xavier Crawford.
