The Chicago Bears have until Monday to activate Teven Jenkins from the IR. The team opened his window knowing this day was coming, so it is fair to assume that they will activate him, and not place him on season-ending IR. With the return of a second-round pick, there are questions as to how he is going to fit in.

He has gotten work at left tackle but played right tackle in college. However, the Bears arguably have their best lineman at left tackle with Jason Peters. Would they move Peters to the bench to get Jenkins extra work?

Matt Nagy said that he does not think that will be the case.

"“Jason Peters I think has done a really good job in so many different ways.  Right tackle with (Larry)  Borom coming in and doing what he’s done, he’s helped us out with injuries that we had to Ifedi. And so, you know, I think for us we always just kind of— we’ll be prepared for if this guy gets injured or if we feel like this guy is not playing well, kind of play it out, those two ways. But right now we feel good with where we’re at. So if anything it provides major depth for us. And then we just play out the scenarios.”"

According to Nagy, Peters is playing too well to push him off of left tackle. They may have their future right tackle in Larry Borom, so they should not move him either. When you combine that with Jenkins coming off of an injury, and Nagy appears to lean towards letting Jenkins be their depth lineman.

This makes sense in some regard. Jenkins did not have any sort of training camp, so he is well behind. Even three weeks of practice can not quite get him up to speed. If the team needs him, or if there comes a point weeks from now where it makes sense, maybe Jenkins will play.

However, they are not going to rush anything. Jenkins suiting up, being active, participating in everything as a backup could be a nice abbreviated preseason for him. Teven Jenkins very well may see the lineup soon. For the time being, he is going to be the Bears depth tackle, though.
