Chicago Bears: 5 Players who have let the team down most in 2021
Kindle Vildor has been the biggest liability for the Chicago Bears defense
The Chicago Bears had to start Kindle Vildor as the CB2 this season and things have not gone well. This is again, mostly the fault of Matt Nagy, Ryan Pace and even to some degree Sean Desai. A matter of fact is, Kindle Vildor should never have been counted on as the starting corner opposite of Jaylon Johnson. Vildor is nowhere near the talent level as Johnson or even the former corner Kyle Fuller. We have seen how bad Fuller has been this year, but even he would be better than Vildor.
While starting for the Chicago Bears, Vildor has given up five touchdowns this year. That is not good and would explain why quarterbacks are targeting him. Right now, Vildor has been targeted 50 times, while allowing 35 of them to be completed. That’s a 70% completion rate. The completion percentage and the touchdowns have led to quarterbacks seeing a 138.8 quarterback rating while throwing in Vildor’s direction.
The problem is, we never should have expected Vildor to be much better. He has shown flashes but has also been very inconsistent even before this season. Last year, as a rookie, Vildor only started one game, but he gave up basically the same completion percentage (70.6%) and quarterback rating (131.2) while being targeted.
He never should have been the starter, but the hope was obviously that the solid play he did flash last year would show up more regularly as the starter this season. Saving a big chunk of money was obviously the other reason he was starting. Would Kyle Fuller look better in this defense than he has in Denver this season or did the Bears see the decline in Fuller’s performance and they knew exactly when to move on? Yeah, I doubt they projected that correctly. The thing is, Vildor has to be on this list as one of the bigger disappointments.
