The Chicago Bears should also promote Dazz Newsome to the active roster

With Allen Robinson and Marquise Goodwin out against the Cardinals, Rodney Adams was flexed to the active roster.

On the Bears’ first possession of the second half, Adams ran an over route on a second-and-7 and headed towards the left sideline. Dalton threw an accurate pass but the ball went right through Adams’ hands. A missed opportunity for the preseason hero.

Since Adams couldn’t capitalize on his opportunity, that could open the door for rookie wide receiver Dazz Newsome. The sixth-round draft pick from North Carolina was also protected on the practice squad on Tuesday.

There is no doubt that Newsome is capable of running the same over route that Adams dropped. So, if he is someone that is going to be a part of the Bears’ future plans, he may as well get some reps with Fields to end this season.

The Bears recently started incorporating Damiere Byrd in the offense these past two games, and Jakeem Grant had his most productive game as a wide receiver against the Cardinals. Clearly, Chicago is looking for someone to step up in this group.

Excluding Darnell Mooney, over the past three weeks — the games Robinson has missed — Byrd has the most receptions from a receiver, with seven for 78 yards. Goodwin’s 104 yards against Baltimore are the second-most behind Mooney in that span.

There’s more to be desired from the wide receiver position, so maybe there is a chance for Newsome to add to this lackluster group.
