2. DeAndre Houston-Carson over Deon Bush

Throughout the 2021 season DeAndre Houston-Carson has been asked to fill in for Eddie Jackson, Tashaun Gipson, and Deon Bush all at separate times due to injuries. Houston-Carson has been a depth safety for his entire career, but in his first stint of actual work, he performed well.

When Bush returned in Week 11, it was worth wondering what the team would do on the depth chart and whether Bush would jump right back ahead of DHC. With Gipson still out DHC started, and Bush played the role of the third safety.

Even more interesting is that in the next two games, Bush has not taken a defensive snap. That is because Gipson and Jackson are healthy and starting. So, in dime, the team has called on DHC over Bush.

DHC played 17 snaps the past two weeks to zero for Deon Bush. No one can say that Houston-Carson did not earn this, and there is a chance that he could be competing to start somewhere next season. It is good that the Bears let DHC know he earned it and are letting him play until he proves otherwise.
