Chicago Bears Stock Report: Head coaching candidates to replace Matt Nagy
Chicago Bears Head Coach Candidate: Nathaniel Hackett – Stock Neutral
Hey, what is that old saying? “If you can’t beat em, steal their offensive coordinator.” Alright, that’s not how the saying actually goes, but you get the point. The Chicago Bears have been trying for years to reach the same level as their big brother from the north, the Green Bay Packers.
With a few seasons of greatness sprinkled in here and there over the last few decades, the Bears have been owned by Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre and the Packers. When it comes to the Packers offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett, I am not really on board. That said, his name has been mentioned enough to be listed in this grouping.
While with Green Bay, Hackett has helped the Packers’ offense reach middling numbers in two of three seasons. Last year, thanks to an MVP performance by Rodgers, the Packers were fifth in yards and first in points. However, in 2019, the team was only 18th in yards and 15th in points. This year they are 15th in both categories. Without Rodgers, I wonder just how good the team would be under Hackett’s tutelage.
While the offensive coordinator in Jacksonville (2016-2018) and Buffalo (2013-2014), Hackett’s offenses only had one year of solid production (2017). Otherwise, his offenses consistently ranked in the low teens to high 20s in yards gained and the same with points scored. We saw how the Packers’ offense performed with Jordan Love in Week 9 — no thanks.
