Chicago Bears Head Coach Candidate: Doug Pederson – Stock Neutral

Last Week: Stock Neutral

I have nothing new to say regarding Doug Pederson so I’m going to leave this one exactly as-is. If you read this one last week, just skip to the next candidate.

This one makes no sense to me, but I have seen plenty of people calling for Doug Pederson to be the Chicago Bears’ next head coach. He is not high up on my list at all. I understand that he won a Super Bowl in 2017, but nothing about him as a coach excites me. There’s a reason why his tenure in Philadelphia has already come to an end.

Pederson is another Andy Reid disciple. He was offensive coordinator of the Chiefs from 2013 to 2015. While coaching the Eagles, the offense was all over the board from year to year. In his first season as head coach, the Eagles were 22nd in yards gained and 16th in points. During their Super Bowl run the next season, the offense saw its best overall performance finishing seventh in yards and third in points.

Nothing great ever came afterward though. Pederson honestly reminds me too much of Matt Nagy and for this, I am not touching him. His offense ranked 14th in yards in both 2018 and 2019 while falling to 24th in his final season as head coach (2020). Points scored were worse as the team ranked 18th, 12th and 26th over those final three years.

I’m leaving his stock as neutral since he isn’t in the NFL currently.
