Chicago Bears Head Coach Candidate: Leslie Frazier – Stock Neutral

Last Week: Stock Up

I received a bit of backlash for dismissing Leslie Frazier so easily. I talked about how he struggled as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings and finished his coaching tenure with them with a record of 21-32-1. Nothing stood out to me as a reason to give Frazier a second chance at the big prize of head coaching another NFL team.

However, calmer heads told me to slow that thinking down. Although Frazier had the benefit of Adrian Peterson, he also had to count on the likes of Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel at quarterback. Yikes.

In Buffalo, Frazier has built an elite defense. In his first season as the Bills defensive coordinator, Frazier’s defense was 26th in yards allowed and 18th is points allowed. Things drastically improved in 2018 though when the defense was second in yards allowed, but still 18th in points allowed. In 2019 the team was third and second, they dipped a little last year to 14th and 16th, but this season they are back to being on top as the Bills are first in yards allowed and third in points allowed.

The problem is, I don’t care. I don’t want Leslie Frazier coaching this team and he is way, way down my rankings list and I’m not certain he’d be any better than Matt Nagy.
