Chicago Bears Head Coach Candidate: Todd Bowles – Stock Up

Last Week: Not Applicable

This used to be a spot for Dabo Swinney, but if he’s going to be taking an NFL job, it seems like the Las Vegas Raiders is the only job he’d be interested in. He does not seem like a true potential candidate for the Chicago Bears. However, one name that I neglected to bring up in last week’s stock report was Todd Bowles.

Just like Leslie Frazier, I was told that Todd Bowles should be on this list of potential replacements. Honestly, Bowles never came to mind when I thought about the Bears’ next coach. I do believe he is a top defensive coordinator, but does that mean he can be a good head coach? Has he learned from his poor performance overseeing the Jets? Also like Frazier, Bowles had pretty bad quarterbacks to work with such as Ryan Fitzpatrick before he found his Fitzmagic and Geno Smith.

Bowles had Sam Darnold for his rookie year, but I think it’s safe to admit that Darnold is not going to make it in the NFL as a starting quarterback. Bowles is another defensive-minded coach who has done well with the Tampa Buccaneers. I’d take him over Frazier or Don Martindale for what it’s worth. However, would he be a step up from Matt Nagy?

Keep checking back as the countdown continues and the due diligence is for the Chicago Bears to be ready to replace Matt Nagy with a competent coach who can bring this franchise another Super Bowl. In the meantime, the Matt Nagy countdown is still in full operation. Will he be fired or will he be brought back for 2022?
