The Chicago Bears should bench or demote Damiere Byrd

Finally, the Chicago Bears should look to bench Damiere Byrd. This has nothing to do with Byrd’s performance, but if we are going to be nitpicky, he hasn’t been great this season. On paper, Byrd only has one drop, but I’d give him at least two more in the Vikings game alone. Byrd has seen more action lately and if Marquise Goodwin remains out, then he should still see the field. I just want to see less of him.

Why do you ask? Well, I want to see more Rodney Adams. Adams was the preseason hero but has not been given much of an opportunity in the regular season. He saw the field in Week 13 and was given one target. Well, I want to see more targets go in his direction. Will Byrd be back in 2022? Honestly, he could be if for the right price. I think the next general manager would prefer Byrd to Goodwin, but neither is likely to remain. Could Rodney Adams be given a path to the 2022 roster though?

Honestly, this is something I am very curious about and I want to see him in action over the final three games. With Allen Robinson benched, Marquise Goodwin likely out and Damiere Byrd pushed down the depth chart, it would leave Darnell Mooney, Dazz Newsome and Rodney Adams as the top three wide receivers. Not a great group for Justin Fields, but at this point, can’t be any worse than what he has been playing with all season.

Next. Matt Nagy is trending for the wrong reasons. dark

The point here is to bench the guys who will not be around next season and give the younger guys some room to shine.
