Chicago Bears Round 3, Pick No. 70

Scouting Report. Cornerback. Washington. KylerGordon. 70. player. 818. Pick Analysis

Knowing the Bears’ current cornerback room, it would be silly of me not to target a cornerback early in the NFL Draft. Given the Bears’ success to find a Day 2 cornerback (Jaylon Johnson), the Bears turn to the Pac 12 again to get their other starting perimeter corner in Kyler Gordon.

Trent McDuffie is the star of the Washington cornerbacks, but Kyler Gordon developed into quite the baller too. Gordon started alongside McDuffie this season and flashed multiple times as well. He finished the season with 45 tackles, two interceptions, and seven passes defended.

Gordon may have been lower than McDuffie in college, but he may project better than his teammate. What Gordon possesses is elite athleticism, better size and ball skills, and physical acumen. He will need some polishing before he can become a star in the NFL, but his traits are extremely enticing and hard to pass upon.

Hopefully, the Bears already got their starting corner locked up for the next eight years in Jaylon Johnson. Alongside him is a mystery for 2022. Kindle Vildor will still be on the roster, although he played extremely poorly this season. Thomas Graham Jr. has shown flashes with a few learning curves, but he could push for a starting job. Regardless, Gordon could learn behind hopefully one of the future stars in the NFL in Johnson and compete with Graham for the starting job.
