As of Tuesday, the NFL is able to request interviews for their head coaching vacancies. The Jaguars have already taken advantage of this, requesting several interviews with candidates already. With the Chicago Bears looking like they’re going to stick it out with Nagy, they will have to wait for the end of the season.
In this article, we will be continuing our coaching carousel series. At this point, I think you all understand the premise of this article and today we will be looking at none other than Kellen Moore.
The Chicago Bears should have their sights set on Kellen Moore
Kellen Moore is looking like he will be one of the more sought-after coaches this year, coming off of the success of the Dallas Cowboys dynamic offense. Kellen Moore had a brief NFL career after a pretty successful college career at Boise State.
Despite his strong college career, Morre went undrafted and ended up signing with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent. Moore remain in Detroit for three seasons before joining the Cowboys as a backup, where he stayed until the end of the 2017 season.
In 2018, Moore retired as an active player but very quickly joined the Cowboys coaching staff as a QB coach that same year. in the 2019 season, Morre became the offensive coordinator for Dallas under Jason Garrett.
Since being promoted in 2019, Moore has remained as the OC in Dallas, even outlasting Jason Garrett and now coaching under Mike McCarthy. Coming into this coaching cycle, Moore looks to be at the top of a lot of teams’ lists.
Final Verdict
In my opinion, Kellen Moore is one of the best candidates out there. The NFL seems to have an obsession with finding the next young, offensive mind to be a head coach and Moore absolutely fits that mold.
As an offensive play-caller, Moore has produced the number one offense in the NFL on two occasions. In 2019 and currently through 2021 the Cowboys find themselves as the number one offense in terms of yards, per Pro Football Reference.
In 2020, the Cowboys had the 14th ranked offense which isn’t too bad considering they lost Dak Prescott early in the year. In a previous article, I stated that Brian Daboll is at the top of my list but Kellen Moore would be right behind him.
Similar to how I feel about Byron Leftwich, the overall lack of coaching experience could be worrisome. However, in Moore’s case, he is running an offense that he clearly constructed. Leftwich also runs the offense in Tampa Bay but it’s an offense created by Bruce Arians.
As always, let us know in the comments how you would feel to have Kellen Moore as the next Bears coach. Also, let us know what other candidates you would like to see.
