1. Doug Pederson
This one is a bit removed from Matt Nagy, but you still get the gist. Doug Pederson was ahead of Nagy. In the chain of commands it went Pederson, then Nagy, then Bienemy, then Kafka. Even though they are all different, they all have similar lines of thought, similar strengths, and similar weaknesses. Hiring any of them is far too close to bringing the same thing Matt Nagy just brought.
Fans will say that Pederson won, and he beat Matt Nagy. He also won with Nick Foles. Still, that is the point. Pederson loves Foles and had a small controversy after winning with him. Pederson also had issues with handing over play-calling duties towards the end of the run. He may be a step over Nagy career-wise, but in terms of how they run the show, the two are similar.
Beyond that, Nagy and Pederson are friends. Nagy brought Pederson into training camp this year and they talk often. Sure, millions of dollars can make you want to take your buddy’s old job. At the same time, Nagy has told Pederson about the ownership, and the way things work over there, and he likely is not even interested, knowing he can wait for his right chance.
All three coaches will be brought up for their own reasons, but together, none of them present enough change in direction to make them the hires.
