Eddie Jackson is open to switching up positions for the Chicago Bears
Could Eddie Jackson be the answer at nickel for the Chicago Bears?
Since Bryce Callahan’s last season in 2018, the Chicago Bears have been searching for a reliable nickel cornerback. Buster Skrine wasn’t the answer. Duke Shelley has been inconsistent, and Xavier Crawford was simply a placeholder.
Now, Jackson may not be the full-time designated slot corner, but putting him in that position throughout games does provide versatility for a defense. Also, Jackson’s coverage and overall playmaking abilities would provide Desai or whoever the defensive coordinator is after this season with the team’s current best athlete at the position.
Eddie Jackson said that as long as he plays with good leverage and relies on his instincts, moving into the slot wouldn’t require anything special of him. Regardless of what the Bears decide to do in the future, Jackson is confident he will be ready.
"When you are at nickel, it’s like you are always in that action. So, I like it,” Jackson said. “I feel like I played cornerback, so I’m not scared to go down there and try to press or challenge nobody. I’m with it. I like it."
