Would you be happy with Trace Armstrong as President of Football Operations?

We have talked about this over and over again, but the Chicago Bears need to create a new position within their front office. Right now, the team only has a Team President. However, the team needs to make a shift and bring in a football mind to oversee the hiring process of a new general manager and head coach.

We already discussed the possibility of Trace Armstrong coming in to take over Ted Phillips’ responsibilities on the football side of things. Armstrong denied the rumors, but one Chicago Bears insider thinks there could be some validity to it.

Peggy Kusinski was asked if this was just what she wanted or if she had a source on the matter. Her response was “both.”

Trace Armstrong is currently a coaches’ agent but played in the NFL as a defensive end for 15 years. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the first round of the1989 NFL Draft. He had a fairly dominant career and finished with 106 total sacks. He only made the Pro Bowl once when he forced seven fumbles in one season.

Although Armstrong would be a huge upgrade over Ted Phillips, would he be the right guy for the job? Way too early to tell, but anyone would be better than Phillips at this point. My only concern is Armstrong being another “yes” man for George McCaskey and Phillips to control behind the scenes.

With Armstrong as President of Football Operations, there are rumors he’d be bringing this person in as general manager.
