The Chicago Bears would eliminate the Saints salary cap problem

In addition to the top trade, the Chicago Bears would send Nick Foles to the Saints for Taysom Hill. We all know that Sean Payton has a soft spot for Hill, and including him in the trade would make things even more palatable for Payton.

The trade will provide the Saints ($62.5M over cap) with these savings:

  • Marshon Lattimore = $14.55M Savings
  • Michael Thomas = $15.8M Savings
  • Ryan Ramczyk – $19M for Larry Borom – $900K = $18.1M Savings
  • Michael Thomas -$15.8M for Khalil Herbet – $857K = $13.69M Savings
  • Taysom Hill – $10.1M for Nick Foles – $8M = $2.1M in Savings

That is a total saving for the Saints of $64.24M. The Chicago Bears would need to restructure and extend a few players to make any of this work. The team has a lot of holes with less than 30 players currently set to be on the 2022 active roster. This trade would fill many of them, but the team would also need to sign some cheap, veteran free agents for depth.
