Chicago Bears news: The inevitable has happened
While Chicago Bears fans have known for weeks the likely outcome of their head coach, it had never been made official. After rumors before the Lions game, and throughout the final weeks, the front office and ownership decided to let Matt Nagy coach out his final weeks as head coach.
While some fans feared the team would screw it up somehow, the inevitable came down early on Monday morning when the Chicago Bears announced the firing of their head coach Matt Nagy.
The Bears still have not fired a head coach during the regular season. Nagy was a gracious person and did not lose the locker room so it was hard to justify him setting history by being an in-season firing.
Still, while everyone expected Matt Nagy to be let go, the real question now is Ryan Pace. It is odd that the team did not announce both firings at the same time. When the Vikings moved on from Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman, the reports came seconds apart. They were likely both told by ownership at about the same time.
This would lend to the idea that Pace may not be on as hot of a seat as Matt Nagy. To be fair, Nagy did have to go and there was too much on his hands to look the other way. However, Nagy and Pace are far too attached at the hip for Pace to continue to work while Nagy gets let go.
Rumors have been that Pace will be moved to a different seat in the front office, but nothing is official yet. Either way, the silence on Pace is loud.
Reports on who will be interviewed to replace Matt Nagy should come soon. We should also expect to hear from George McCaskey, which would give us news on Ted Phillips soon.
