A look at the West Coast Offense vs. a more aggressive offense

Circling back to the WCO head coaches versus coaches that use more aggressive offenses, here is a little history lesson. The WCO has won 4 out of the last 10 Super Bowls. Three of these teams had franchise quarterbacks. They are Patrick Mahomes, Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson. The fourth is Nick Foles. Nick’s rep as a QB is someone who runs hot and cold and he ran very hotly when the Eagles won the Super Bowl.

These are the QBs of the six Super Bowl winners in the last 10 years that did not use the WCO. Eli Manning and Joe Flacco both won a Super Bowl. Eli was probably not a franchise QB and Flacco certainly was not. It should be noted that Mahomes, Manning and Wilson are accurate deep and not at all shy about going deep.

Then there is Tom Brady who won four of the last 10 Super Bowls. So in the last 10 years, Tom Brady himself won as many Super Bowls not using the WCO as the four QBs who did win a Super Bowl in the last 10 years. I believe the quality that connects all of these Super Bowl quarterbacks is they all have more than their share of football intelligence, leadership and courage plus they are accurate deep.
