When the Miami Dolphins fired Brian Flores, it surprised many. However, the Chicago Bears were quick to react and based on recent reports, they were the first team to call for Flores for his next head coaching interview.

Flores is a head coach who has some Bears fans divided about whether or not he would be a good hire. On one hand, there are plenty of positives, but he has to answer questions as well.

Why Chicago Bears should hire Brian Flores

Brian Flores is a Bill Belichick assistant but seems to have a different tone to him than the others. To start, his game plan was credited highly in the New England Patriots holding the Rams to under a touchdown in the Super Bowl.

His game plan came back when he shut down the Rams in Miami again last season. This is a person who can scheme.

When the Miami Dolphins hired him, all thoughts were that they were tanking during his first year. Flores started his career 0-7, but willed the team to a 5-4 finish, and has gone over .500 in each of the past two seasons.

His record is not phenomenal but he took over a depleted group and has consistently won more than he has lost with them, and the Dolphins are in a much better spot today than they were before the 2019 season.

Flores reportedly lost a divorce between him and Tua Tagovailoa. Rumors are that Flores wanted Justin Herbert, and was not happy to be saddled with Tua. To be fair to Flores, he turned out to be correct. On top of that, Justin Fields is stylistically much closer to Herbert than Tagovailoa. Perhaps Flores sees his chance at a do-over with a big, mobile quarterback.

Flores is a no-nonsense coach and it is tough, which is a bit of a contrast from Matt Nagy, who was everyone’s friend. He is young, experienced, and has been shown to elevate his talent.

Why Chicago Bears should pass on Brian Flores

Brian Flores has had four offensive coordinators in three seasons. His first OC left after his year with Flores and actually took a lesser job with the Cleveland Browns as their WR coach. Then, he hired Chan Gailey, who had a great relationship with Ryan Fitzpatrick but strained his relationship with Tua Tagovailoa.

Finally, in 2021 he hired two coordinators and wanted them to compete during training camp for the job, which is bizarre. Flores could not decide and kept two offensive coordinators.

Beyond that is his relationship with Tagovailoa. Yes, he may not have wanted him from the jump but a head coach is supposed to work with what he is given. Flores almost refused and hurt the rookie season of Tagovailoa when he kept pulling him in and out of games.

In year two Flores did not help Tagovailoa progress but rather tried to get Jacoby Brissett to beat him out. Friends that Flores has hired walked out on him, and players have felt isolated by him.

Flores is a great defensive coach, but all his questions come on offense, and that is not what the Chicago Bears can have from their head coach right now.
