Chicago Bears Coaching Candidate: Nathaniel Hackett
The Chicago Bears landing Josh McDaniels sounds as realistic as them acquiring Jim Harbaugh or Sean Payton. While I would be for all three coaches, those dreams are not realistic. The Chicago Bears are active in the coaching search. Currently, they have requested interviews from just about everybody to include:
- Todd Bowles and Byon Leftwich – Tampa Bay Buccaneers DC and OC
- Nathaniel Hackett – Green Bay Packers OC
- Brian Daboll and Leslie Frazier – Buffalo Bills OC and DC
- Doug Pederson – Former Philadelphia Eagles HC
- Matt Eberflus – Indianapolis Colts DC
- Dan Quinn – Dallas Cowboys DC
- Brian Flores – Former Miami Dolphins HC
Two names stand out from that list. Brian Daboll and Nathaniel Hackett. Both coaches are offensive coordinators, which the Chicago Bears don’t seem to care about, but that is still a considerable advantage in today’s NFL.
These coaches also have backgrounds from multiple different systems and head coaches. Nathaniel Hackett started his NFL career with his dad as an offensive quality control coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006. He was also an offensive quality coach under Dick Jauron (west coast system) in 2008.
Hackett Followed Doug Marrone to the NFL from Collge to serve as the offensive coordinator running the Air Coryell (vertical passing attack) in 2013 with the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville in 2016. Hackett made Blake Bortles a superhero for one season in 2017. After the Jaguars flopped in 2018, Hacket was one of Matt LaFleur’s promising hires to get Aaron Rodgers back to MVP form. With what Hacket did for Blake Bortles, it was easy cheese (HaHa) to get Rodgers back to MVP caliber.
