The Chicago Bears requested to interview Ran Carthon. He is currently Director of pro personnel for the San Francisco 49ers.

Ran Carthon started his career as a former NFL player. He went to the University of Florida and had a very successful career, but still went undrafted. However, it was Bill Polian and the Indianapolis Colts who gave Carthon his first shot in the NFL.

Carthon stuck with the Colts through 2006. He did not have a strong NFL career, but the time he spent with the Colts changed the trajectory of his entire career. Carthon said that Bill Polian took some time to watch tape with him one day and from that point, he was hooked.

In 2007 he tried coaching, but in 2008 he got into the scouting business, taking a job with the Atlanta Falcons. Thanks to Polian, he got his first start in the NFL, but he met Les Snead during his time with the Falcons, and Snead became his next mentor.

Snead got a job as the LA Rams General Manager in 2012, and he brought Carthon with him from Atlanta. Carthon was a scout when Snead was Director of player personnel. When Snead got bumped to GM, he made Carthon his Director of player personnel.

Carthon had a great relationship with Snead, but another relationship with John Lynch got him the job of Director of pro personnel with the San Francisco 49ers. Polian, Snead, and Lynch are all considered mentors for Cathon, who has a strong list of connections.

From four years with the Falcons, to five years with the Rams and five more with the 49ers Carthon has a lot of experience in the scouting and stream building area.

His ties to Bill Polian go all the way back to 2003, and you have to think that Polian at least has some sentimental aspect of giving this riser his start.

Next. 5 Bears who will not return in 2022. dark

Still, beyond that, you have to be impressed that each stop that Carthon had brought winning and promotions. Snead was promoted because of the success he had in Atlanta and knew to bring Carthon with him to keep it going in LA.

Not many fans have Ran Carthon as the top person on their GM wishlist, but his credentials are as good as any of the other candidates, and his connection to Polian must be factored as well.
