4. Who will call plays in the middle of the Detroit Lions defense

Cornerback was a weekly shuffle but the linebacker position was the worst area and most in need of a fix. For most of the season, Alex Anzalone was their signal-caller with the green dot, but he was a liability in coverage and was second amongst all NFL linebackers in missed tackles.

He is a free agent and missed the last few games with an injury. The team had Derrick Barnes step up without him, and the rookie is expected to compete for a starting job in 2022. The question is who will be beside him. It is unlikely to be Anzalone, and Jalen Reeves-Maybin is a free agent as well this offseason.

If Walker leaves as well, the team is going to lose some serious coverage and communication in the back end. This is a team that should go out and add a veteran signal-caller and a leader in the middle of their defense.
