Are these 2 Chicago Bears GM candidates connected to Brian Flores
The Chicago Bears had two somewhat surprising interview requests over the weekend when they reached out to Miami Dolphins Senior personnel executive Reggie McKenzie, and Tennessee Titans director of player personnel Monti Ossenfort.
The names are a bit surprising because the team had already scheduled a dozen interviews. The list was only expected to be 12 or so, and most of the names had some sort of relationship with Bill Polian.
McKenzie and Ossenfort came after the initial list of 12, and also have no ties to the Bill Polian regime. It is interesting that they would choose these two names to interview later on in the process.
Of course, that is unless they were asked to interview those two by a coaching candidate.
Brian Flores has been the hot name as a head coach candidate after the Miami Dolphins fired him. He interviewed with the Chicago Bears, and reports are that the Bears are smitten with what he brings to the table.
The big question is who the General Manager will be because Flores already worked for one team where he was not on the same page as his GM and that worked out poorly.
With that in mind, Flores may have noted that his preferred GMs were McKenzie and Ossenfort.
This makes a lot of sense. To start, McKenzie has spent the past three seasons in Miami. No one knows what Flores and McKenzie discussed over those three seasons, but if both through he got a raw deal, they could sync back up in Chicago.
However, Ossenfort may be more established. Ossenfort and Flores were with the New England Patriots from 2004-2019. That is a long time, and often they had to work together considering Ossenfort was helping scout defensive players with him.
The duo was also sent to a symposium together in 2018, as an aspiring head coach and general manager.
There are a lot of ties, and it goes all the way back to the 2018 New England Patriots almost projecting this duo to a team four years later.
Of course, Ossenfort has his own resume and plenty of experience to look back on. However, the Chicago Bears have admitted that they want a combination at general manager and head coach. If they can sync up Brian Flores with his good friend Monti Ossenfort, they would be doing just that.
