2. Letting the interviews influence your decision

When the Chicago Bears announced their General Manager firing, reports leaked that Morocco Brown would be one of the first names that they called. When the Bears said that Bill Polian was making the hire, it started to make sense, considering Polian hired Brown to the Colts long ago.

The worst thing the Bears could do is let Polian tell them who to hire beforehand, and have a sham interview process that led to a Polian-based hire. They let Polian have his input, and he helped gather the list, but the list ranged beyond him.

Morocco Brown, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Glenn Cook, Ed Dodds, Ran Carthon, and JoJo Wooden all came into the interview with a connection to Bill Polian in one way or the other. You do not see the name Ryan Poles. Polian surely knows him, but this was not someone that Polian gave preferential treatment to. The Bears interviewed the Polian guys, and they thought Poles was better so they hired him. That is how it should, but not always how it goes.
