The Chicago Bears have solid cap space for 2022, but they could find more

Following the 2021 season, new general manager Ryan Poles will be tasked with revamping multiple important position groups for the Chicago Bears, specifically offensive line and wide receiver. These two groups will be extremely important for the development of young quarterback Justin Fields.

The Bears will be expected to spend major allocation to wide receiver specifically given the fact that the only major wide receiver under contract for 2022 is Darnell Mooney since Allen Robinson is a pending free agent. On top of that, the Bears need to make changes to the offensive line as well to protect Fields as he was one of the most beaten-up quarterbacks this past season facing multiple various injuries.

To do this, Poles will be tasked with making major decisions of retaining, releasing, and even trading certain players from this roster in order to create more space for more important position groups. Looking at some position groups, the Bears have an excess in defensive line talent and depth, so the Bears could look there. On the other hand, there are some veterans on the roster that could be released as they aren’t worth their current contracts anymore.
