Mike Kafka is another possibility at offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears

Mike Kafka does not have a link to Matt Eberflus, but he clearly has one with the Chicago Bears’ new general manager Ryan Poles. Kafka is currently the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs. The problem is, we all know that Andy Reid is the brainpower behind the Chiefs’ offense.

That said, Kafka is one of the hot names thrown around in the NFL. He has been a big part of the development of Patrick Mahomes. We all would love for Justin Fields to become remotely close to what Mahomes is today. Could Kafka be the guy to bring out the best of Fields?

Ryan Poles is not the only link for Mike Kafka to the Chicago Bears though — or at least the Chicagoland area. Kafka was born in Chicago and graduated from Northwestern where he served as a graduate assistant. I’ve heard Adam Hoge talk about his time working with Kafka at Northwestern and he speaks very highly of Kafka and his football intelligence.

Prior to his coaching career, Mike Kafka was a quarterback at Northwestern and played for six years in the NFL. Ironically, he was drafted in the fourth round by Andy Reid in 2010 when Reid was still coaching the Eagles. He was a backup and practice squad guy throughout most of his career and only appeared in four games.

Clearly, Kafka made an impression on Reid since he brought him to work for him in Kansas City. Now, it is time for Kafka to move on to bigger and better things. Diving back into the Kansas City coaching tree could scare some fans off, but Kafka deserves a real shot. Could Ryan Poles convince Mike Kafka to come work with Matt Eberflus? We will see.
