Names to keep an eye on as the next Chicago Bears offensive coordinator
Rumors are that the Chicago Bears could be interested in Kevin Patullo
A name that is being floated around as a potential offensive coordinator is current Eagles passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo. Patullo was in Indianpolis with Matt Eberflus from 2018 to 2020. He was the wide receivers coach in 2018 and 2019 and was promoted to pass game specialist in 2020.
The thing is, this is Frank Reich’s offense and Patullo isn’t going to earn much credit. However, the Colts did go 11-5, 7-9 and 10-6 during those three years. Patullo moved on to the Eagles to be their passing game coordinator. The move made some sense to try and show he is able to call plays and work his way up to be a true offensive coordinator.
The Eagles’ passing game may look awful, but if you watch the games, the receivers were actually getting open. The problem here was mostly Jalen Hurts missing them or receivers dropping the ball. The receivers dropped 22 balls this year for a 5.4% drop percentage. This isn’t the worst in the league, but they would be within the top 12 in the league for most drops. For perspective, the Bears had 18 drops in 2021.
If we look at the team as a whole, they ranked 14th in yards and 12th in points. What is crazy though is that they threw the ball the least amount of times this year. They finished 25th in yards because of it. The numbers don’t look great for Patullo, but I do think he’d be a better option than what the numbers show while in Philly. Patullo wouldn’t be my top choice, but I would give him the benefit of the doubt for at least the first season.
