The Chicago Bears would be best if they chose Joe Brady or Jim Caldwell at OC

The good news is that Joe Brady and his spread offense is the lone wolf non-WCO coach being considered by the Bears, according to the insiders. In 2019, with Joe Burrow as their quarterback and Joe Brady as their passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach the LSU Tigers scored 60 touchdowns. At the time, this was an NCAA record. I imagine Bears fans picturing Justin Fields in this offense is a most pleasant thought.

Brady’s two years as the Panthers OC didn’t work out so he got fired. However, it would be unfair to put the majority of the blame on Brady for the Panthers’ failures on offense. They were a team very short on offensive talent. His QB in Carolina was Sam Darnold and their best offensive weapon, Christian McCaffrey was injured most of those two years. Then there is this interesting bit about Joe Brady that is food for thought. His agent is Trace Armstrong who is also the agent for Ryan Poles and Matt Eberfluss.

I find it more than a bit ironic that my top two choices for the Bears’ next OC are the youngest and the oldest possible candidates. Joe Brady at 32 years of age is the youngest. At 67, Jim Caldwell is the oldest. Caldwell said the magic words to the Bears, at least in my mind. He said he would design an offense around the extensive skill set of Justin Fields. That obviously, means he would take full advantage of attacking defenses downfield using Fields’ mobility and his strong arm.

This does not describe the West Coast Offense. It does, however, describe the way Mahomes performs his magic for the Chiefs. It should be noted that Mahomes in college had Kliff Kingsbury as his head coach and that team used a “bombs away” spread offense.
